About the rules of cricket
The rules of the game are set by the Marylebone Cricket Club, which also makes changes to existing regulations. There are several formats of cricket – including those where the number of pitches is extremely limited. In total, in the history of the game of cricket, the official rules have changed 8 times. We will not list the entire set, but we will highlight the most basic and interesting points:
A cricket team consists of 11 players, of which 1 is the captain.
Substitutions are not abhorred with a caveat – the team member who has stepped in as a substitute cannot pitch, bat, defend a wicket or take over as team captain.
The umpiring staff consists of 2 umpires. In some cases the number of umpires is increased to 3. There are also 2 markers to assist the umpires.
The ball designed for cricket is made of cork and it is covered with natural leather on top. The weight is 163 grams. The size of the bat is 97 meters in a pancake.
In the center of the field for the game is the pitch – a small land area, on the edges of which there are wickets. Its size is 20 meters long and 3 meters wide. The wickets are made of 3 wooden posts, the height of which is 71 centimeters.
The number and duration of innings in each team match is discussed individually.
The umpires determine the winning team by the number of points (here called wounds), the number of wickets destroyed is taken into account.
The rules prescribe the possibility of situations where the ball is considered dead. Actions with it are not taken into account, points are not awarded. Also the ball can be in the position of wyad-ball and no-ball.
